Apple Season=Apple Sauce!

It’s apply picking season!!

I got the chance to go to a apple farm up on Signal Mountain, TN                         and although I didn’t literally pick apples, I did get to snag a big bag. Sadly I don’t remember the type of apple I picked up, but it looks like this.

I found this recipe for homemade applesauce on pinterest and I just had to try it! The recipe actually came from the blog  MommyMakesitBetter. She has wonderful recipes, along with grocery deals and menu planning! You should definitely check her out!

Her recipe is labeled Crockpot Applesauce. I didn’t follow her directions perfectly since I didn’t have some of the ingredients, so I will tell you what I did.

Ingredients: 

6 apples

4 tsp of sugar (she used brown sugar

1 1/2 tsp of lemon juice (she used a peel of lemon and juice)

about 1 1/2 tsp of cinnamon (she used a cinnamon stick)

Directions:

Peel and chop apples into cubes and place into crockpot

Add sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon

Set crockpot on low and cook for 6 hours. Stir occassionally. (I took mine out about 4 hours because I like chunky applesauce)

After the allotted time use an immersion blender to blend until smooth. (or put into a blender)

That’s it! Super easy and tastes amazing!! Mommymakesitbetter says that you can refrigerate it for up to 3 weeks, or freeze and thaw when you want some.
